My Amsterdam Trip: January 26–28, 2026
Amsterdam in January is cold, but incredibly atmospheric. During my post-exam break (Jan 26–28), I hopped on the high-speed train from Belgium for a 3-day city trip filled with world-class art, "aesthetic" museums, and the best Dutch snacks.
If you’re planning a trip to the Dutch capital, here is my personal itinerary and the gems you shouldn't miss!

Where We Stayed
Our home for the trip was Hotel Roemer Amsterdam, a charming hotel that felt like stepping into a classic Amsterdam house. We stayed in a Junior Suite with breakfast included.
-
The room was spacious, bright, and impeccably clean.
-
The bathroom was generous in size, complete with a bathtub perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring.
-
Breakfast was more than just a meal—it was an experience. Every morning, you could order freshly made waffles, pancakes, or omelets, prepared just the way you liked them.
The combination of cozy charm, comfort, and excellent service made Hotel Roemer the ideal base for our Amsterdam adventure.

Day 1: The Magic of Vincent van Gogh
Our first day began with a visit to the Vincent van Gogh Museum, a destination I had dreamed of for years. As a devoted fan of Van Gogh, stepping into the museum was like entering a world where his vibrant colors, bold brushstrokes, and emotional depth came to life. Each painting told a story, and the atmosphere of the museum was calm, inspiring, and immersive.
I couldn’t resist picking up two books and a small souvenir for my parents, so they could share in a piece of this incredible experience.
In the evening, we enjoyed a classic comfort dinner at the nearby Hard Rock Cafe. The burgers were juicy and delicious, and the staff’s warmth made the evening even more enjoyable—a perfect first night in the city.

Day 2: Immersive Art & Street Vibes
On our second day, we took the metro toward Westerpark to explore the modern side of the city.
1. Fabrique des Lumières
We visited the immersive center to see the Monet & Rousseau exhibition. Seeing classical masterpieces come to life through light and music was so "aesthetic." It’s a completely different way to experience art—perfect for your Instagram feed!
2. The "Wall" Snack & Stroopwafel Obsession
You can't visit Amsterdam without trying the local food culture:
-
FEBO: We did the classic "eating from the wall." It’s a must-do Dutch experience!
-
Stroopwafels: We stopped at a local bakery where I bought jars for my parents and grandparents. Warning: they are highly addictive! I’m officially a stroopwafel addict now.

Day 3: Modern Icons & Illusions
We spent our final day soaking up as much culture as possible before heading back to Belgium.
-
Moco Museum: This place is a dream for modern art lovers. We saw iconic pieces by Banksy and my personal favorite, Jean-Michel Basquiat. They also have the famous "Sexy Robot" by Hajime Sorayama (the one featured in The Weeknd’s concert tour). It’s such a cool, edgy museum.
-
Museum of Illusions: To wrap up the trip, we went here for some fun and relaxation. It’s interactive, confusing in the best way, and great for taking mind-bending photos with friends.
